Many of us have areas of responsibility and our actions can affect many people.

As Information Security Professionals we need to be careful and humble, It can be very risky if we´re not.

We need to focus on what really matters, and ensure that we are delivering value to those around us – our employers, suppliers, regulators, and co-workers.

This means that we need to be sensitive and understanding of the challenges that people are facing and be proactive to address the concerns and fears that they face. In such times, people are worried about employment, bills, their family and mental health, so we need to be seen as a support and advisor to them – not as the enemy and strict disciplinarian.

Gently but firmly remind employees not to take advantage of the system or do something against policy. Mention that our goals are to protect them and the organizations we work for – not to get them into trouble.

And even now, or perhaps especially now - the investment we make in people is the most important investment we can make.

Business will not be slowed down for ever, and if you neglect your people you will fall behind in the digital transformation race.

Plus, training has rewards that cannot even be understood by people that only seek profit and choose to disregard others.

Give people a chance – give them opportunities to live up to our expectations and be willing to let them try to develop new skills.

Patience is a key – but so is motivation and persistence. Do not give up on yourself or others.

That is what is important – we may never really realize the impact we have had on others, nor find ourselves wealthy – but somewhere there is a person that knows that we cared and trusted in them.

Training is good – encourage people to expand their horizons and be all that they can be.
